NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Crews in Newport News responded to a house fire in the Southeast community Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 2:30 p.m., fire units were dispatched to the 1100 block of 36th Street where they found smoke coming from the structure, according to Assistant Fire Chief Robert Craft.
“Crews began interior fire-attack and search and rescue operations. The Incident Commander deemed the result of the search and rescue efforts to be all clear, and the fire under control at 2:44 p.m.,” Craft said.
No one was injured, and unattended cooking was determined to be the cause of the fire.
Craft said the American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and four children, who had been displaced by the fire.
