WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – A man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted two Williamsburg police officers over the weekend.
Major Greg Riley with the Williamsburg Police Department said officers responded to the 400 block of Capitol Landing Road around 12:15 a.m. Saturday for a medical call.
When the officers arrived, they found the caller, identified as 43-year-old James Roy Vogel. Police said Vogel began verbally assaulting the officers and threatening them.
Officers calmed Vogel down, and helped him get to Riverside Doctor’s Hospital. Once he was there, police said he continued verbally assaulting the medical staff, prompting the officers to decide he needed to be taken into custody for disorderly conduct.
As they were trying to arrest him, police said Vogel swung at and hit one of the officers in the head. They said he then grabbed a second officer, put him in a headlock and punched him several times.
Riley said the first officer used a stun gun on Vogel, and took him into custody.
Neither of the officers involved was injured.
Riley said Vogel was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, and charged with two felony counts of assault on an officer and disorderly conduct.
