HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton Police were investigating the city’s third shooting since Thursday at Calvary Terrace near Jordan Drive Sunday evening. Officers said someone shot a woman.
Neighbor Santos Rivera said he was just leaving the neighborhood when it happened.
“When I turned the corner, at the beginning that I turned the corner, to make the left-hand turn, I heard a lot of shots and then I heard a pause and then some more shots,” said Rivera.
Police focused their attention on a car in a driveway that looked like it had run over a fence and appeared to have at least two bullet holes. It was not clear who was driving the car.
Neighbor Marie Ford said her grandson was playing outside when she heard the gunshots.
“I heard ‘bang, bang.’ I thought it was firecrackers. Then I heard ‘bang, bang, bang, bang’ and I told him to come on back in here. I think it’s terrible,” said Ford.
Police said the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, and that she was walking and talking after the shooting.
Ford said she doesn’t know what started the violence.
“A lot of times they get to shooting and you don’t know where the bullets are going to go,” said Ford.
It was not clear where the victim was shot or if she went to the hospital. Police have not released any information about suspects in the shooting.
