NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) Hampton Police arrested a wanted homicide suspect with the help of Newport News Police’s SWAT Team and Fugitive Apprehension Team at a hotel on Hornsby Lane, across from Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News Saturday morning.

According to a spokeswoman for Newport News Police, the Fugitive Apprehension Team and SWAT Team responded to the Extended Stay America Hotel around 9 a.m. after investigators received information that 25-year-old Kwuame Edwards was in the hotel. Edwards was wanted for the May 17 homicide of 28-year-old Hampton man.

Edwards came out of a room around 10:30 a.m. and was arrested without incident after a woman, who was not aware of what was going on, came out first.

According to Newport News Police, Edwards has been wanted in their city since May 3 and in Hampton since May 17, when he was identified as a suspect in the death of John Bradley Coles, who was found shot to death in a home on Newport News Avenue.
