PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Motorists rerouted at the Midtown Tunnel Thursday during severe weather will not be expected to pay a toll.
Between 3:13 p.m. and 5:11 p.m. Thursday, the Midtown Tunnel was closed to traffic due to water inside the tube. Motorists were rerouted to the Downtown Tunnel, but passed the toll sensors to do so.
Leila Rice with Elizabeth River Tunnels said the company has tried to filter the transactions before posting them to accounts, but because of timing, customers may see the charges on their accounts.
ERT is asking customers to carefully review their E-ZPass accounts and Pay-by-Plate invoices. Anyone who has a charge during the timeframe the tunnel was closed, contact Elizabeth River Tunnels at 855-ERT-ROAD or customerservice@DriveERT.biz.
