Scene clears in suspicious package incident

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The scene of a suspicious package incident in Norfolk Thursday afternoon has cleared.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire and Rescue said the incident occurred in the 100 block of West Virginia Beach Boulevard in the parking lot of the Harrison Opera House. Williamson said the call came in around noon from a concerned citizen who had witnessed a man leave a bag under a parked truck.

Crews evacuated apartments on Westover Avenue on the side where the investigation was, Williamson said. The bomb squad sent a robot to get pictures and examine the package.

Around 2:30 p.m., police said the packaged was clear and roads had been reopened. Fire officials have not released any information about what the package was or what time it was cleared.
