Bicyclist transported after crash with vehicle

Jason Marks reports on bike crash with vehicle

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say a bicyclist crashed into a vehicle Friday afternoon, suffering serious injuries.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. in the 2000 block of General Booth Boulevard, near London Bridge Road.

Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department said a 2008 Ford F150 pulling out of a parking lot was hit by the bicyclist in the passenger side front quarter panel. The truck driver stopped immediately, Borman said.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital via Nightingale, due to the initial severity of his injuries. Although the injuries initially appeared to be life-threatening, the boy is expected to make a full recovery, Borman said.

Police dispatchers said the bicyclist was a child, and Borman confirmed he was a juvenile. She did not give the boy’s age.

“Just know that everybody is praying for that baby,” said Virginia Beach resident Shannon Harrison. “It is pretty upsetting. I have an 11yearold boy, a nineyearold girl and a 14monthold little boy. Seeing that, I can just imagine what those parents are going through.

Borman said no charges have been filed.

No further information has been released. Stay with as we gather more details.
