NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Norfolk Admirals introduced Jarrod Skalde as its new head coach on Friday afternoon. Skalde, an assistant last season for the Admirals, replaces Trent Yawney who was promoted to the Anaheim Ducks to serve as assistant coach to Bruce Boudreau.

Skalde has head coaching experience. The 43-year-old from Ontario was head coach of Bloomington in the International Hockey League and spent three seasons leading the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.

In 2012-13, he was named ECHL coach of the year.

“It’s tremendous,” Skalde said. “I was fortunate to start my career as a head coach and last year was very valuable for me to develop and learn under Trent Yawney and Marty Wilford. I feel I am more prepared at this point in time to be the next head coach than maybe a couple of years ago.”
