NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – It’s in the genes for Taylor Harrison. A gymnast since the age of 3, her mother Tami Harrison was once a 10-time All-American at Cal State Fullerton. But it’s 18-year old Taylor who’s earned something her mother didn’t…a national championship.
Taylor won the all-around for her age group at the Junior Olympics in Jackson, Mississippi back in May. “For her to do that was just overwhelming. There’s just no words that can really describe it,” said Tami at her gym, World Class Gymnastics in Newport News.
Taylor, on the other hand, said it might have been one of her more relaxed performances, considering she’d come close so many times but couldn’t quite break through for first place.
“I wanted to just hit 4 for 4,” said Taylor, “I just didn’t want to fall. I was just like, ‘Don’t fall! Don’t fall!’
“It’s my last meet and I wanted to end on a good note.”
Her journey isn’t over yet. In the fall, she’ll begin her college career at Ohio State University.
