HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A fire sparked in Hampton Thursday night, killing four family pets.

Assistant Chief Jeff Pereira with the Hampton Fire Division said firefighters were called to a home in the first block of Old Meribeth Road around 2:30 p.m. There, they found smoke coming from the roof.

Inside, fire was found in the kitchen and attic areas.

Pereira said a dog was rescued from the house and resuscitation efforts were provided, but the animal died along with three cats.

The origin of the fire was the attic and was accidental, Pereira said. The cause remains under investigation.
