MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WAVY) – A swimming advisory was issued Wednesday for the Jockey’s Ridge sound-side access in Nags Head.
According to Dare County officials, test found a high level of bacteria in the water that exceeds state and federal standards. Officials said people swimming or playing the water with high levels of these particular bacteria have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illness or skin infections.
The beach is not closed, and the swimming advisory affects water within 200 feet of the posted sings.
State officials will remove the signs and alert the public when bacteria levels decrease.
