NWS confirms three tornadoes in wake of Hurricane Arthur

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Three brief EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Hampton Roads and North Carolina as Hurricane Arthur passed last week.

The National Weather Service confirmed tornadoes in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Hertford.

The first tornado touched down around 11:30 p.m. Thursday near Saluda Road north of Ahoskie in Hertford. A carport was removed and an outbuilding destroyed in the event. The home lost about 30 percent of its shingles. Damage was also reported to crops on Saluda Road.

The second tornado touched down around 1:15 a.m. in Virginia Beach near Lynnwood. Trees were snapped and uprooted long Lynndale Road and Kline Drive, including one that fell on a home, causing damage to the roof.

The third tornado touched down around 1:40 a.m. near Forest Lawn Cemetery. Trees were snapped and uprooted. Officials say this was from the same storm that produced the tornado in Virginia Beach.
