NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Fire officials made an arrest in an early morning arson case at a Norfolk apartment.
Crews responded to the 200 block of A Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and were met out front by one of the residents. He led firefighters to the source of the fire, a small charcoal grill, according to Battalion Chief Julian Williamson. The man explained that he woke up to the smell of smoke and went to investigate. He opened his back door and discovered the grill on fire. The resident used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
The Norfolk Fire-Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined the fire was intentionally set. Shawn Scott was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with arson, threat to burn and two counts writing a threat to kill or do bodily harm.
Investigators have not provided any information on motive.
