VSP: Trooper found $27K in marijuana during traffic stop

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Troopers made a large drug bust during a routine traffic stop Friday, according to the Virginia State Police.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said a 2001 GMC Denali was stopped on Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach near Mount Trashmore around 1 p.m. The trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle and began a search of the driver and the vehicle.

Anaya said five pounds of marijuana valued at $27,000 was located in the vehicle and the driver, identified as Randy Lamont Baker of Norfolk was found in possession of nearly $3,000 in cash.

Baker was charged with speeding and possession in the intent to distribute.
