Police seek witnesses of crash that killed toddler

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police are looking for witnesses to the crash that killed a child in Newport News.

Investigators say 2-year-old Angel Vazquez was hit by a car on Wickham Avenue Wednesday afternoon, across the street from his home. Nightingale was dispatched to the scene and transported the boy to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died the next day.

Police say the driver, who remained at the scene, was not speeding and was not distracted at the time of the crash. She told police she didn’t see the child. Investigators have also determined the child’s parents were not negligent.
