NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A 54-year-old man died two days after he was hit by a driver running a red light in Newport News, according to police.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department said Francis Henry Kroll of Newport News was pronounced dead around 6:30 p.m. at the hospital.
The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. Monday in the area of Jefferson Avenue and 74th Street. A 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling northbound on Jefferson Avenue when it ran a red light and struck a motorcycle turning left onto Jefferson Avenue from 74th Street.
Both the motorcyclist and the 58-year-old driver of the Pontiac were taken to a local hospital.
The roadway was closed to motorists for some time and the scene cleared by 8:30 a.m.
