Civilian driver faces charges in officer-involved crash

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A Portsmouth police officer was involved in a crash Monday morning.

The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. in the area of Portsmouth Boulevard and Elm Avenue, Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com.

An officer was responding to an emergency call and had the lights and sirens activated on the cruiser when an Acura pulled out in front of the officer. The driver of the Acura complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital.

Holley said charges for failing to yield are pending against the driver of the Acura.
