VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Even the threat of a hurricane couldn’t stop tourists from heading to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront over the Fourth of July weekend.
Business managers along Atlantic Avenue said the combination of perfect weather and July 4 falling on a Friday made for a profitable weekend.
17th Street Sal’s manager, Bryan Holland, said the pizza restaurant made ‘top sales’ Friday through Sunday, making it one of the best weekends for business all summer.
“The line was out the door all day long,” said Holland.
Holland said employees were worried about Hurricane Arthur a few days ago. But, the large crowds proved those fears wrong.
“It didn’t scare anybody away,” said Holland. “I guess everybody still said, It’s Fourth of July, we’re still going to come.'”
Beachfront hotel managers also said they were packed over the weekend. While many guests were concerned the storm would ruin the weekend, they still showed up for the holiday.
