House condemned after fire in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A home in Newport News was condemned Saturday after a fire.

According to the Newport News Fire Department, firefighters were called to a report of a house fire with an individual inside on 48th Street at 2:50 p.m. Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the home.

Everyone was able to get out of the house safely, and no one was hurt.

Fire officials said the flames were under control by around 3:30 p.m., but the home was condemned due to the damage. According to investigators, the fire appears to be accidental.

The resident of the house is being helped by the Red Cross.

No additional information was released.
