YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) – Investigators say a woman’s claim that a man attacked her with a chemical in a Yorktown parking lot, burning her leg, was unfounded.
The alleged victim told the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office a man in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Route 17 threw liquid on her last month that burned her. She told them the same man had approached her at the Tabb Walmart earlier in the day and asked her to dinner. She turned down his advances, telling him she was married.
The victim told deputies she believed the suspect was driving an older model white Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the Walmart. They determined, based on the video evidence, that the alleged victim was never approached either inside or outside the store, by anyone. They checked the victim’s receipts from that trip to the Walmart, which showed she purchased items that could have caused the injuries she suffered. These items were not included in the list of products she claimed to have purchased when she met with detectives.
As a result of the investigation, the woman was arrested and charged with filing a false police report.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released her name.
