PD: Suspect stole restaurant’s cash register

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police are asking for help identifying a suspect who they say broke into a Newport News restaurant and took a cash register.

According to Newport News Police, officers were called to Rocky Mount Bar-B-Q located at 10113 Jefferson Avenue around 10:15 a.m. on June 24 to investigate a burglary. The owner of the restaurant told investigators someone went into the locked business and stole the cash register.

Police said the suspect could be seen on surveillance video, breaking into the front door glass around 4:50 a.m. According to police, the suspect acted like they were familiar with where the restaurant’s cameras were located.

At 4:57 a.m., police said the suspect took the cash register and fled the business.

In the video, police said the suspect was wearing what looked like a teal or light blue shirt with a hoodie and light blue pants
