Hurricane prompts curfew, alcohol ban in Hyde County

OCRACOKE, N.C. (WAVY) – Officials in Hyde County have announced a curfew as Hurricane Arthur passes through the Outer Banks Thursday night into Friday morning.

The curfew for Ocracoke Island will be in place from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday. Additionally, a curfew for mainland Hyde County will be effective from 10 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday.

Hyde County officials have also placed a ban on the sale of alcohol beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday.

Ocracoke is under a voluntary evacuation order at this time. Officials are asking visitors to leave as soon as possible and for residents to be prepared for impacts from the storm.

The last ferry from Ocracoke to Swan Quarter will leave at 4 p.m. while the last ferry from Ocracoke to Hatteras will leave at 5 p.m.
