Smithfield Police investigate stolen vehicles

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) – Police in Smithfield are investigating reports of two vehicles stolen a block apart the morning of July 2. In both cases, investigators say the thieves had access to the keys.

One vehicle was unlocked with the keys inside. The other stolen vehicle was locked, but the suspect found the keys to it in another, unlocked vehicle in the driveway.

The Smithfield Police Department says most reports of vehicle theft are the result of unlocked doors with access to keys.
