CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A fluid spill caused traffic congestion on Centerville Turnpike in Chesapeake Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Ravi Sheth with Chesapeake police said the hydraulic fluid spill happened between Bridge Road and Butts Station Road when one of the city’s backhoes blew a hydraulic line while being towed. The crew didn’t notice the line was broken until they pulled up to Centerville Turnpike at a red light and noticed the fluid pooling.

The clean up took several hours, causing a lane closure on the two-lane road and slow-moving traffic.
