Gas line broken near Old Dominion University

NORFOLK, VA. (WAVY) – Contractors hit a gas line near Old Dominion University’s campus Monday morning.

It happened around 8:15 a.m. in the area of Monarch Way and 47th Street. Battalion Chief Julian Williamson told WAVY.com no evacuations were made, however, crews did not allow people into buildings in the area until they were cleared by the fire department.

The 1100 block of Killam Avenue was closed as crews worked to secure the leak, which was completed by 10:45 a.m. and the road reopened.
