SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Crews battled a brush fire in the rural Holland area of Suffolk Sunday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., Suffolk Fire-Rescue crews responded to the 5800 block of O’Kelly Drive for a fire that originated in a wheat field, according to Diana Klink with the city of Suffolk.
“Numerous units responded to the blaze, including Engines 4, 7 and 8, Brush Trucks 1, 7, and 8, Battalion 1 and the Carrsville Fire Department’s Brush Truck 20 and Attack 20,” Klink said.
Kink said the flames burned about 25 acres of the field before crews could control the fire at 4:09 p.m.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an issue with the combine that was working the field at the time.
There were no injuries.
