NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Delegate Algie Howell confirms he is resigning his position as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates.

Del. Howell told WAVY News 10′s Andy Fox, “I will be making an official statement on June 30.”

When asked why he would be leaving mid-term, Del. Howell would not give an explanation, except to say, “Anyone who knows me knows that 10 1/2 years is the longest time I’ve spent on any one job.”

He has been a member of the House of Delegates since 2004, serving the 90th District.

Howell would not say anything more, and had to be prodded to say that much. Howell said he is not leaving for health reasons.

Arlington Democrat Del. Bob Brink also announced plans to resign Monday.
