HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Independence Day is all about celebrations, being surrounded by family and friends, and backyard barbecues. With so many parties and events to attend, it can seem hard to make yours stand out.
Entertainment expert and caterer Mary Giuliani spoke with our hosts on The Hampton Roads Show this week to share some great ideas to make your Fourth of July celebration pop.
*Aim for good ambiance: Enjoy the outdoors this holiday, and pick a new spot for your party that you’ve never tried before. Giuliani recommended setting up under a different tree or by the pool to refresh the energy.
*Impress your guests: According to Giuliani, the easiest way to impress your guests is to grill! She recommends trying a new rub, spice combo or barbecue sauce to jazz up your meat. Your feast won’t be complete without hot dogs, so seek out some new types of sausage to grill up this summer. Provide an array of toppings, such as onions, relish and sauces, for a memorable cook out.
*Diverse desserts: Don’t fuss over a fancy cake or individually-frosted cupcakes this Fourth of July. Giuliani suggests bringing out your cooler to house a selection of chilly treats. Pack your cooler with different ice cream flavors, mini ice cream cones and ice cream sandwiches. Smaller cones are great for kids, and light on the calories.
