SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A former Suffolk firefighter is accused of taking money from his firefighter’s union.
According to court documents, Sheron Gibson, 41, was indicted on 12 counts of embezzlement and one count of forgery. Court documents say the embezzlement took place while Gibson was the treasurer of the Suffolk Firefighter’s Union.
Gibson is accused of taking more than $100,000 while he was in the position. Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said the complaint was made by the union.
He was once named firefighter of the year and also served as a medic. He is no longer employed by the City of Suffolk, Klink said.
