Heroin, cyber stalking arrests made in Southern Shores

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — In a joint law enforcement operation, two arrests were made Monday in related to heroin distribution in the Southern Shores area.

The Dare County Narcotics Task Force and Southern Shores Police Department were investigating a person who said to sell heroin in the area, according to Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.

He was identified as Travis McCarron Wimett, 23, of Southern Shores and apprehended while walking down a road. Heroin and cash were also seized at the time of his arrest.

Hoggard said the investigation led to another arrest. Christine Janette Drennen, 21, of Grandy was in the area and found to have heroin and drug paraphernalia in her possession.

The investigation also led law enforcement back to Wimett’s residence, where more heroin and a firearm were seized.

Wimett was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver heroin, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was also served a warrant from Currituck County for cyber stalking and committed to the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $101,000 bond.

Drennen was charged with possession of heroin and felony aid and abet the distribution of heroin. She was released on a $5,000 bond.
