Cyclist safety: Tips for sharing the road

PORTSMOUTH, Va.(WAVY)- It’s summertime which means many of us are getting out on our bikes for pleasure and for exercise. Recently, a cyclist was injured on the Berkley Bridge pedestrian pathway by a bridge tender causing a change in policy by VDOT for how vehicles and cyclists share that particular pathway. With that change and bike safety in mind, we had Tom Fitzgerald join us from Kalfus & Nachman to talk cyclist safety, sharing the road and how to avoid injury. Tom digs into what kind of distance you should keep between yourself and a cyclist and the pending bills being considered to ensure your safety on the road if you are an active cyclist. Check out the segment for more information on this important topic and to learn more about new measures coming down the pike to ensure cyclists are safer on the road!
