VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the cause of deaths for a Virginia Beach mother and her 7-year-old daughter. Police said their deaths were determined to be a filicide and suicide.
The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Thu Thao Havan and a 7-year-old girl, both residents of the 2200 block of Chicks Beach Court. The Medical Examiner’s Office told WAVY.com Havan’s cause of death was intra-oral gunshot wound to the neck while her daughter’s was gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Officers were called to the 2200 block of Chicks Beach Court to investigate the deaths around 3 p.m. Wednesday. An emergency dispatcher received a 911 call about two females found dead inside a residence, according to Tonya Borman with Virginia Beach Police.
“I got home with the kids about 2:30 and walked out the door about 15 minutes later to get my trash can and police were everywhere,” said neighbor Brian Longtin. “It shook me pretty good. I didn’t know what to do. I walked over and asked the officer what was going on?”
Longtin was like most neighbors trying to figure out what happened in the house next door. The home was outlined in crime scene tape. He watched as investigators walked in and out of the front door. Neighbors say a mother and her young daughter live there. They moved in only a year ago.
“I didn’t know her well other than just waving every once in a while when I see her out here in the yard,” Longtin said.
Neighbors say the woman’s mother stopped by the home Wednesday because she hadn’t heard from her daughter in a couple days. She reportedly found two bodies inside and called for help.
“My understanding is that it was the woman and her daughter found inside,” Longtin added.
