Sailor stabbed near Navy hospital released

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Sailor stabbed in an altercation near Naval Medical Center Portsmouth earlier in the month has been released from the hospital.

Jim Moir with the Navy told WAVY.com Petty Officer Justin Powell was released June 20 from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service say Powell was stabbed by fellow Sailor Wilbur Harwell during an altercation in a barracks room June 6. Harwell was arrested near the Oceanfront after an hours-long manhunt.

Moir said Harwell remains in pre-trial confinement at the Navy Brig and charges have not been filed at this time.
