Police look for suspects in Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man was hurt in a shooting in the City of Hampton Tuesday night.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division told WAVY.com officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Fairland Avenue just before 9 p.m. for a report of a shooting. There, they found a 20-year-old Newport News man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Shackelford said the investigation revealed the victim was approached by unknown suspects and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, one suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim before fleeing on foot toward Milford Avenue.
