Police chief briefs council on strategy against crime

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — There’s a new strategy to combat crime in Norfolk after a violent month.

Police Chief Mike Goldsmith told City Council Tuesday night that overall crimes with guns were down, but shootings involving more than one victim are up.

The Chief said the department will now be analyzing social media and looking at crime trends in hopes of of stopping violence before it can happen.

The department also has a task force geared towards gang activity.
