NY man accused of Oceanfront hit-and-run crashes

Oceanfront crowd concerns

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 40-year-old man from the Bronx was arrested in Virginia Beach Saturday morning after police say he caused a series of hit-and-run incidents near the Oceanfront.

Around 12:30 a.m., a uniform bicycle officer was talking with someone in the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue when a black Honda Accord struck the officer’s bicycle, which was parked next to the curb. The Honda left the scene, turning onto 16th Street, traveling to Pacific Avenue, through the light, striking a vehicle, then another, which in turn hit another vehicle.

The driver of the Honda then tried to flee the area on foot, but was apprehended by bicycle officers.

The driver, Glenn P. Richardson of Bronx, NY, was charged with three counts of felony hit-and-run, two counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run, failure to yield right of way, failure to maintain lane, and driving on suspended operators license.

Police have not released information about the extent of injuries involved during the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
