PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The old Cradock High School in Portsmouth was reduced to a memory Wednesday.

In 1993, the Portsmouth School Board decided to close the school on George Washington Highway. Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing has been working with a developer for the past couple of years on a project to build approximately 200 single family homes on that property, according to spokeswoman Kathy Warren.

Wednesday afternoon, a major step in that process began, with the demolition of the vacant building.
