CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Community Church in Chesapeake launched its Serve-the-City program last week by providing service projects in the Holly Cove neighborhood and local schools.

Hundreds of church members worked together with residents of all ages to mow lawns, plant flowers, and paint. The volunteers also installed windows, picked up trashed and replaced doors throughout the community off of Airline Boulevard by Southwestern Park, and at the school.

In a news release, Holly Cove resident Deborah Skinner said, “Community Church is an incredible blessing. They’ve helped me out so much over the past couple of years. I don’t think I would be a homeowner still, if not for the things they do for me.”

The church also held a children’s program and teen basketball tournaments.

“We want to bring a message of hope and love to our local communities,” said Senior Pastor Michael Brueseke.

The church plans to hold more Serve-The-City events.
