Two injured in unrelated overnight shootings in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Two unrelated shootings within 30 minutes of each other in Portsmouth late Saturday night left two men injured, one with serious injuries.

The first shooting happened around 11:06 p.m in the 3800 block of Town Point Road. Police said the victim was shot in the arm and medics transported him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but the wound did not appear to be life-threatening.

Officers then responded to another shooting around 11:34 p.m in the 50 block of Merrimac Drive. Officers arrived on the scene and found a man who had been shot in the torso.

Medics transported the victim to Sentara Norfolk General with serious injuries. The man underwent surgery for his injuries early Sunday morning. There is no word on his current condition.

Police are investigating both shootings but do not believe they are related. Information on possible suspects or motives for the shootings has not been released.
