NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Two separate shootings just after midnight wounded three people in Newport News, but police do not believe the shootings are connected.
Around 12:35 a.m. police responded to the 400 block of Catina Way after two men approached a group of people at the intersection of Crossing Court and Catina Way. One of the men fired a shotgun at the group.
An 18-year-old Newport News man suffered an abrasion to his chest when he was struck by shotgun pellets, and a second 18-year-old man was struck in the back and arm, according to a press release from Newport News Police. Both victims’ injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Two vehicles and a home were also hit by pellets.
One suspect is described as wearing a gray t-shirt and gray sweat pants. The second suspect is described wearing black shots and a bucket hat, and was not wearing a shirt.
About 15 minutes later at the other end of Newport News, officers responded to a shooting at a party on Blake Loop.
According to police, the 19-year-old victim was standing outside with a group of people when they heard gunshots. The victim noticed he was shot in the hand and friends took him to a local hospital for treatment.
A description of the suspect and motive for the shooting have not been released by police.
