OREGON INLET, N.C. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard rescued an injured man from a boat near Oregon Inlet Saturday.
According to a news release from the Coast Guard, Dare County Emergency Services called the Coast Guard around 3 p.m. about a man who needed medical assistance near the Bonner Bridge. The owner of a 22-foot power boat had suffered a laceration on his leg.
A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew was launched, as well as an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew.
The small boat crew and a good Samaritan got to the scene around 4 p.m., and tried to tow the boat into deeper water to transfer the injured man. The helicopter crew arrived minutes later, and hoisted him up.
The man was taken to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City.
