NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A swimming advisory issued Thursday for Hilton Park Beach in Newport News has been lifted.
According to the Peninsula Health District, samples collected June 17 showed bacteria levels that exceed state water quality standards.
The District said a sign was posted at the beach to alert the public about the advisory. The sign read: “Warning swimmers – bacteria levels do not meet state water quality standards, swimming not advised until further notice.”
More samples will be collected Thursday, and the District said results should be available Friday. The sign was removed once bacteria levels decreased.
The advisory was lifted Monday.
