NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Eastbound traffic at the Berkley Bridge was stopped for more than an hour after heat caused problems with the bridge Wednesday.

Around 11:30 a.m., Elizabeth River Tunnels Tweeted traffic was stopped due to an extended bridge lift. The lift took place at 11 a.m.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police told WAVY.com there was a structural issue with the bridge and troopers were helping with traffic eastbound. The bridge reopened around 12:15 p.m.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the extreme heat caused the bridge to not lock in place.

Traffic is moving again.
