NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A crane fire was confirmed at Norfolk International Terminal Wednesday evening.
Joe Harris with the Port of Virginia said a straddle carrier at the South Berth of Norfolk International Terminals caught fire Just before 5 p.m.
By about 6 p.m., Norfolk firefighters had extinguished the flames and were beginning the clean-up process. Until the straddle carrier is removed from the area, cargo operations on the South Berth were put on hold.
Harris said no injuries were reported.
The extent of the damage to the straddle carrier is not yet known. The origin and cause of the fire is also unknown, although, Harris said it will be investigated.
