PD: Alcohol may have been factor in water rescue

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) –  A man’s body was recovered after he jumped into the water off Little Bay Avenue in Norfolk late Monday night.

The man has been identified as 59-year-old George M. Mallory of Norfolk, according to Officer Daniel Hudson with the Norfolk Police Department.

Hudson said officers were called to the 1100 block of Little Bay Avenue around midnight to conduct a water rescue. The man jumped into the water a few minutes before the call was made.

Hudson said the man’s body was recovered before 1 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified at this time.

WAVY.com asked Hudson if it was being investigated as a suicide. He said no, but the preliminary investigation stated alcohol could be a factor.
