NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – One apartment was condemned after a fire at The Towers in Newport News Sunday night.

Crews were called to the 700 block of Waterfront Circle around 9:15 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Robert Craft said when units arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a second-floor window.

Craft said one resident was treated at the scene, but was not taken to the hospital. The resident was able to get out of the building on his or her own.

Craft told WAVY News the apartment where the fire broke out is condemned. Three adults and one child are being helped.

Investigators determined the fire was electrical in nature. Craft said the flames were out, and crews were working on overhaul.

Twenty-one units at the same apartments were condemned after a cooking fire back in March.
