Man shot at Newport News bus stop

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police say a man was shot while waiting at a Newport News bus stop Wednesday.

Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said a 38-year-old man was waiting at the bus stop at 79th Street and Marshall Avenue just before 5 p.m. when an SUV drove up. Someone fired three shots from the passenger side of the vehicle.

Eley said one of the shots hit the victim in the lower right side. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said the vehicle continued in the direction of Hampton.

No suspects have been identified in the investigation at this time.
