CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – A Currituck County mother tells WAVY.com she is trying to help her family move on after she says she discovered a 39-year-old man sexually assaulting her child in a shed.
Sheriff Susan Johnson with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the Wedgewood Lakes area for a report of a sex offense involving a child. The child’s mother reportedly found the suspect, identified as David W. Giles, in a shed in the backyard of her home engaged in the offense with the child.
Deputies say Giles took the mother’s vehicle when he was caught and fled the scene. The vehicle and Giles were stopped on Shawboro Road and Giles was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, violation of a domestic violence protection order, no operator’s license and domestic criminal trespass.
After an investigation warrants were obtained for crimes against nature, indecent liberties with a child and sex offense with a child against Giles.
Bond for all charges is currently set at $503,000.00.
The mother of the child told WAVY News’ Liz Palka her family is struggling right now, but they are “praying for peace” and for no family to experience the same.
She also said the suspect is known to the family.
