Two families displaced by apartment fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two families were displaced after a fire at a two-story apartment building in downtown Suffolk Tuesday.

Suffolk Fire-Rescue crews were called to the 100 block of Pine Street around 8 p.m., according to Diana Klink with the city of Suffolk.

All occupants of the four-unit building were evacuated when crews arrived. Firefighters controlled the kitchen fire in one of the upstairs apartments by 8:17 p.m., Klink said.

Four adults and one child were displaced from the apartment where the fire originated. Two adults were displaced from the second upstairs apartment, which sustained smoke damage. Both families were assisted by the American Red Cross.

No one was injured.
