CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A firefighter has been transported after crews battled flames at a Chesapeake fast food restaurant Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said crews were dispatched to the KFC/Taco Bell located at 139 S. Battlefield Blvd. around 1:45 p.m. There, they found a lot of smoke coming from the restaurant.

A firefighter was taken to a local hospital for heat related issues, Saunders said.

Crews closed Battlefield Boulevard where it intersects with Cedar Road, at the Battlefield Boulevard drawbridge, and between those two points. It is now reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Stay with WAVY.com for more on this developing story.
